Job Posting: Assistant Superintendent

Spencer T. Olin Golf Course is looking for a dependable, responsible individual interested in a career in golf course maintenance. The chosen candidate will assist the Superintendent with daily maintenance of the golf course and management of the grounds crew. While experience is preferred, it is not required, as the chosen candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from a GCSAA Member Superintendent with over 30 years of golf course maintenance experience. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, mowing, course setup, assisting with irrigation repair, chemical and fertilizer applications, and staff supervision and scheduling.

Educational Requirements

High School Diploma required
2-4 year turf grass certificate or degree preferred

Required Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

Have 1 year of golf course or related turf management experience
Be punctual and dependable
Be able to work more than 40 hours per week while in-season (April – October)
Be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Be able to identify, analyze, and solve problems with minimal supervision
Have experience managing subordinate staff
Be able to work outdoors, operate machinery, and lift at least 50 lbs.
Have excellent communication skills
Have a valid driver’s license
Have a positive attitude, professional manner and appearance
Have an Illinois pesticide applicators license OR the ability to obtain license within 60 days of hire
Possess some knowledge of the game of golf

Compensation:
Salary Range: $45,000 to $50,000, dependent on Candidate experience

Insurance: Health, dental, vision, insurance available

Additional: 401K with company match, paid vacation, meals while on duty, uniforms, golf privileges, continuing education allowance, and GCSAA dues.

ABOUT THE PROPERTY:

Spencer T. Olin Golf Course is approximately 30 minutes from downtown St. Louis in the 750 acre Gordon F. Moore Community Park. Arnold Palmer designed this course layout at the request of his life-long friend of over forty years, Spencer T. Olin, founder of Olin Industries. Mr. Palmer’s goal was to design a course challenging enough for the skilled golfer, but yet enjoyable for the average golfer. As a testament to these “Palmer” standards, Spencer T. Olin hosted the 1996 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Link Championship, the ESPN televised 1999 U.S. Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship, U.S. Amateur Qualifying, US Open Qualifying, PGA Champions Tour Qualifying, Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying, and the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association’s East Side Amateur Championship. The course features 3.5 acres of pencross bent grass greens, 30 acres of zoysia fairways and tees, as well as a 9-hole Executive Course called the Learning Center.
